FRIDAY FINANCIAL FACT: Open-enrollment myths vs. facts
Open enrollment is an avenue for parents to choose the best school district for their child to ensure their needs are met. Open enrollment is a process used by parents which falls under the umbrella of Ohio school options and school choice.
Every spring, Van Buren and most other districts open the application process for open enrollment students. Some facts about open-enrollment at Van Buren:
- Van Buren receives approximately $4,800 more in tax revenue from the state per open-enrolled student than we do for district residents.
- Students who are open-enrolled from another district must apply annually. This gives us an opportunity to control class sizes for new district residents.
- Open-enrollment is capped in each grade level at specific enrollment figures to ensure that we serve Van Buren district residents first.

Good Afternoon! We will continue with the Modified Hybrid Model for the week of February 15. A reminder that if we do not have school due to weather conditions, all students will have a remote learning day. So if we do not have in person school tomorrow due to weather, the day will be a remote learning day. If you have not received information from your teacher or building on this, you should today. Have a great rest of your day.
