Congratulations to Avery Heitkamp (Interior Design), Alexandria Smith (Speech Pathology), Rachel Cavera (Social Media), and Taylor Stewart (Social Media) for completing spring internships as part of the Beyond VB Internship Program.
Special thanks go to Angela Middleton of Burlwick & Co. in Findlay; McKenzie Blair of Speaking-Listening-Connecting Speech-Language Pathology, LLC in Carey; and Maggie Morehart and Cassie Schaffer of Van Buren Schools for mentoring these students as they explored potential careers.
The goal of the Beyond VB Internship Program is for students to learn about careers while working under the guidance of professionals already in those fields. We all know that experience is a great teacher, so we want students to spend time in the careers they are considering so they can make informed decisions about their post-high school lives.
Internships are also an opportunity for students to work toward the OhioMeansJobs-Readiness graduation seal, which is one of twelve seals VB students could work toward in the 2022-2023 school year.
If you or someone you know would consider mentoring a junior or senior for 60 hours (an average of 3.5 hours per week for a semester), please reach out to Brian Bratt at bbratt@vbschools.net to learn more.
Parents, if you have a student who will be a junior or senior next year who is interested in learning more about the internship program and has not completed the Beyond VB Internship Program interest form, students can complete the form at https://bit.ly/BeyondVB (URL is case-sensitive).

Today, VBMS 7th graders took part in a real life financial simulation. All 7th graders took part in classes all week developed by the OSU Extension Office during Social Studies to learn financial skills. Today, volunteers from the Extension Office, Hancock Federal Credit Union, State Bank, Habitat for Humanity, and Hancock County 4H led our students through the simulation process where they had to get a job, pay taxes, consider additional education, buy food, vehicles, and insurance while determining whether they would have a family. Thank you to these organizations for helping to provide a fantastic experience for our students! #BeABlackKnight
