2026 Graduates Earn AP Scholar Recognition graphic

We have had some action-packed days across the Van Buren Local School District recently as our students honored history, built connections, and fueled up for success! 🧡🖤

Honoring & Remembering - On Friday, elementary librarian Mrs. Tammy Routson and the Flag Committee teamed up with Mrs. Brooke Forsyth’s fifth grade and Mrs. Molly Heitkamp’s fourth grade classes to place flags in remembrance of 9/11. School Resource Officer Deputy Crouch joined our fourth graders to share meaningful insights about the day, while Roman and Ariah Sumney led the placement of the flags. A huge thank you to the Sumney family for their dedicated support of this tradition for the past five years!

Building Middle School Connections - Our middle schoolers spent Friday participating in their annual Welcome Back Day. Students reconnected with classmates and formed new friendships through spirited team-building challenges and Minute-to-Win-It events designed to strengthen our school community.

Fueling Up for Success - This morning, we officially launched our new district breakfast service in both the elementary and MS/HS cafeterias to give our students access to nutritious food to start their days and set them up for academic excellence. Learn more at https://www.vbschools.net/article/3122833.

Thank you to our dedicated staff, students, and community partners who help our Black Knights grow into respectful, responsible, and resilient leaders every day! 🧡🖤

Thank you to everyone for contributing to a fantastic first day at Van Buren Local Schools! 🧡🖤

Our hallways were full of energy as students reconnected and jumped right back into the learning groove through engaging, hands-on activities. Among those activities were Mrs. Jen Obenour’s sixth graders opening advice cards last year’s students wrote to them, Mr. Adam Schumaker's high school chemistry students experiencing a look at science in action, and Mrs. Stephanie Spridgeon's fifth graders learning the value of teamwork.

From day one, we're focused on building thinkers, experiences, and connections while guiding our students to be respectful, responsible, and resilient every step of the way.

Swipe through to check out a few of our favorite snapshots from around the district today, and we look forward to seeing everyone again tomorrow! 📸

Congratulations to Mr. Arian Keeran, transportation supervisor, and Mr. Jarrod Mellott, bus mechanic, for completing and passing the Ohio Department of Transportation’s bus spot inspections leading up to the start of the 2026-2027 school year.

Even though our buses earned a 100% passage rate during the annual inspection in January, the buses are inspected again each August to confirm their readiness to safely transport students.

The spot inspections included the entire fleet, focusing on all lights, emergency exits, and other essential equipment needed for day-to-day operations.

We appreciate the effort Mr. Keeran and Mr. Mellott put into maintaining our buses and the work our bus drivers will soon be doing to safely transport our students throughout the upcoming school year.

🔴⚪🔵 Happy 250th Birthday, America! 🔴⚪🔵

Today, we are celebrating a massive milestone—USA 250! To honor 250 years of history, freedom, and community, our amazing students and staff came together to create this special picture before the end of the school year. Thank you to Mr. Jack Marshall and Mrs. Jenn Barrett for organizing this opportunity!

Throughout the year, you might have also noticed American flags lining the street in front of our school. Many of those flags were donated by Richard Lowery prior to his passing, and we appreciate his support of our district. We also want to thank Mrs. Tammy Routson, Mr. Troy Sumney, and all of the volunteers who help them every year for the dedication they have shown to making sure the flags are displayed. Without fail, they remind us of how great our country is, and we appreciate their work!

From the Van Buren Local School District family to yours, have a safe and happy Fourth of July!

The Van Buren Local School District Board of Education recently recognized Culver's of Findlay for its strong support of Van Buren Local Schools.

Board member Michael Leifheit presented the award to Jamie and Danielle Doxsey, the owners of our local Culver's restaurant.

The honor is part of the Ohio School Boards Association’s (OSBA) Business Honor Roll program. The program gives school districts a way to thank local businesses and recognize them for their valuable contributions to schools. OSBA provides personalized certificates and other resources to help school districts with their recognition activities.

Van Buren Local School District and its board members, administrators, staff, and students would like to express our sincere appreciation for all our OSBA Honor Roll recipients do for our district.

Today wasn't just the last day of school—it was a celebration of how much our students have grown this year.

From last-day ceremonies to the final ring of the bell, we couldn't be more proud of everything our students have accomplished. 🌟

Throughout the day we celebrated our middle schoolers at the Ceremony of Excellence, officially welcomed our fifth graders to the middle school during their bridge ceremony, finished high school exams, and waved a final goodbye to the buses as they rolled out for summer! 🚌☀️

Congratulations to all of our students, staff, and families, and have a safe, fun, and wonderful summer break! 🕶️
