Free Lunch Meals for the 2021-2022 School Year
In response to the financial hardship felt nationwide and as a result of the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has announced an extension to its free meals program for all students for the 2021-2022 school year through the Seamless Summer Option (SSO). Van Buren Local Schools will be participating in SSO, which allows all students to receive one free lunch daily at no cost. The program is being offered at no cost to the district.
No application is required to receive the district-wide free meals for the 2021-2022 school year, however even though there is no charge for meals this year, filling out the Free/Reduced application provides other benefits, such as qualifying to have certain extracurricular and athletic fees waived.
Student accounts will not be charged for any lunch meals that meet the regular meal criteria set forth by the USDA. A la carte purchases will be charged as usual.
