Congratulations to 2026 graduates David Cavera, Maverick DeWalt, Carter Fry, and Andrew Puperi for earning the College Board’s Advanced Placement (AP) Scholar award for their performance on AP exams taken as students at Van Buren High School.
To earn the award, all four students scored a 3 or higher on at least three AP exams.
While these four students clearly excelled, our other AP students did, too. 89% of our students who took an AP exam last year earned at least a 3. Even those students who did not earn a 3, though, benefit from the AP experience. Per the College Board website, “Research shows students who take AP courses and exams are more likely than their peers to attend college and graduate on time. Even AP exam scores of 1 or 2 predict better college outcomes than academically similar college students who didn’t take an AP course and exam.”
Our district continues to provide AP offerings taught by our teachers in our school because of their immense value, giving students opportunities to earn college credit while providing the academic rigor that drives growth.
We appreciate that these students were willing to take on the challenge of AP coursework and look forward to many more of our students earning this recognition.
