On August 20, 2026, the Board of Education took steps toward addressing our district’s land deficiency when an agreement was approved to purchase land in the village north of Hoadley Park. With us being landlocked, lacking space for new facilities, preparing for future growth of our district, and having limited extracurricular space, this purchase helps us come closer to meeting the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission's campus acreage recommendation for a district our size (our usable acreage is currently 58% of the recommended amount). Throughout exploring solutions, meeting student safety and personal needs and ensuring fiscal responsibility have been our guiding priorities.
Over the last three years our facilities committee, made up of community members, board members, and school personnel, carefully explored alternative solutions such as facility partnerships with local organizations before reaching this conclusion. Various analyses confirmed that acquiring undeveloped land that is close to our current campus is the most fiscally responsible and practical long-term solution for our community.
While the Board has authorized moving forward, finalizing this purchase remains a multi-step process that depends on thorough environmental and structural suitability testing. However, the property aligns with key criteria established by our facilities committee. Most importantly, it is located on the same side of the railroad tracks as our current campus, eliminating dangerous rail crossings for walking students. It also offers easy accessibility from major roadways, stays walkable for students, and rests close to existing utility connections to reduce future infrastructure and taxpayer costs.
We care deeply about our village and our current campus footprint. Acquiring this land provides the essential physical space we need to keep students safe and maintain an outstanding learning environment for generations to come. Thank you for your continued partnership, and we will keep you informed as we move forward.
