Congratulations to Thalia Anderson, Caroline Bennett, Jackson Beuschlein, Maks Daboiko, Kaitlyn French, Daksha Guggilam, Tommy Heintzelman, Mia Howard, Lydia Kramer, Lilybeth Mimbs, Camila Ortega-Munoz, Davi Quadros, Eliza Ralston, Bryson Reynolds, Rikki Sattler, Josh Schroeder, Ainsley Smith, Sophia Steiner, Jada Sumney, Laura Willey, and Kency Worline for advancing to the third round of The Amazing Shake.

Almost 70 students in grades 6-8 who advanced to the second round of The Amazing Shake put their communication skills to the test today in the high school gymnasium with the goal of advancing to the third round.
Rotating through challenges such as the Birthday Bash, Break Time, Job Interview, and Tonight Show, students were required to think on their feet to communicate appropriately for the situations they encountered.
Angel Gutierrez, who is employed at A Place of Joy in Findlay, became involved as a judge when one of her clients was talking about The Amazing Shake and mentioned there was still a need for judges. She said, “I had so much fun. I love talking to the kids and know this will help them prepare for the future. They might not have been confident in all of the situations they faced today, but it was a chance for them to be uncomfortable and learn.”

Levi Houk, a 2011 VB graduate and general manager at Culver’s of Findlay, enjoyed coming back to be a judge. “The school looks great, and it is incredible to see the teachers I had who are still here. There is a lot of raw talent in the school, and it is good for students to practice communicating because this is the place for them to work through their nervousness.”
Houk’s station, titled Pizza Order Challenge, required students to “talk on the phone” to order food. “Because students today can order food through apps like DoorDash and GrubHub requiring no person-to-person interaction, this challenge put them in a situation they might not have experienced before, and that was good for them,” he said.

Participant Bella Ewing, a seventh grader, enjoyed the experience, saying, “It was good to meet new people. The Restaurant Manager Challenge requiring me to solve the problem of running out of fries was the most difficult, but I think I did pretty well.”
After the second round ended, the 21 students who advanced to the third round (Professional Interaction & Team Challenge) being held this Wednesday, May 6, were announced in the auditorium. The top three students in the third round will advance to the final round on May 13.
