Good afternoon VBMS families!
Our students and staff have done an excellent job adhering to social distancing and mask expectations here at school.  While we continue to take precautions, we are moving to being on-campus five days a week and scheduling our year-end events to bring some ‘normalcy’ to the end of this very successful school year.  Stay tuned for more information on those events!

5-Day Schedule begins March 15

Beginning Monday, March 15, on-campus students will be attending 5 days a week and we will no longer be using Wednesdays as a remote learning day.  The student day will remain the same as the modified hybrid:  8:00am to 2:05pm.

Future Calamity Days

Our school calendar allows for five calamity days each school year.  Any additional closings due to weather this school year will be online days and will work similarly to our Wednesday online day used during the modified hybrid schedule.

State Testing Schedule

State testing has been scheduled for the following dates for on-campus students.  We ask that parents avoid appointments on these days:

  • Tuesday 4/20 and Wednesday 4/21:  English Language Arts (grades 6-8)

  • Tuesday 4/27 and Wednesday 4/28:  Math (grades 6-8)

  • Tuesday 5/4 and Wednesday 5/5:  Science (8th grade only)

The state also requires VLA students to take these assessments.  They will be administered to VLA students in small groups on these days:

  • Friday 4/23:  English Language Arts (grades 6-8) 8:15am

  • Friday 4/30:  Math (grades 6-8)  8:15am

  • Friday 5/7:  Science (8th grade only)  8:15am

VLA students should report at the time listed above with his/her Chromebook and charger to door #2.  When finished, students can call parents for pick-up at door #2.  We will test VLA students using distancing and masks must be worn.  More details will be emailed to VLA parents closer to the testing window.

Daily Announcements

VBMS posts our daily announcements each morning by 8:00am.  Check them out here for information on activities and clubs!

Schoology

The adoption of Schoology has allowed us to align to one platform for online components to our classes at Van Buren in grades K-12.  Parents should have received an email providing information on how to create parent accounts in Schoology.  Below are links to video tutorials and help guides:

Pandemic School Lunch Waiver - Extended through the end of the 2020-2021 school year

All Van Buren students are eligible to receive free school lunches (a regular lunch) as a result of the federal school lunch program waiver made possible through the CARES act through the end of this school year.

Using PaySchools for Lunches and School Fees

Van Buren Schools is now using PaySchools to accommodate online payments for our school lunches and fees.  If you used PayForIt in the past for lunches, you can login here to migrate your account to PaySchools.  If you never used PayForIt in the past, create a PaySchools account here.  Note: Lunches and fees can still be paid for by bringing in a check or cash.
