A reminder that winter break for Van Buren Local Schools is December 23, 2019 through January 1, 2020. Classes resume Tuesday, January 2, 2020.
Academic Club Hog Raffle Fundraiser
Members of VBMS Quiz Bowl, Science Olympiad, Power of the Pen, and National Junior Honor Society are selling tickets for our half hog raffle! Two winners will be drawn February 21, each winning a locally-raised and processed half hog.
Tickets are $5 and can be purchased from members of the above groups or in the MS/HS office starting January 8 through the drawing date.
Attendance Reminders
We ask that families note a few attendance reminders:
- We must have notification of a student absence prior to 8:30am the day of the absence. A voicemail message can be left at the MS/HS attendance extension (419-299-3384, press 1) or email to Mrs. Keeran (dkeeran@vbschools.net).
- When providing the notification of absence to the school, a reason must be provided. If no reason is provided, the absence is considered unexcused.
- If your family has reasonable notice of an upcoming absence (vacation or extended weekend, surgery, etc.), please complete the pre-approved absence form prior to the absence and return to Mrs. Keeran in the MS/HS office.
Mark Your Calendar: Community Coffee tackles Vaping
At the next VBMS community coffee, we will hear from Kayla Demuth (Hancock Public Health) about vaping. Let's learn and work together to keep our kids healthy and safe! This event will take place Thursday, February 20 at 7pm. Watch social media for details on RSVPing.
Manage Your Child's Lunch Account Online!
Van Buren Schools use payforit.net so that parents can manage their students' lunch accounts. Parents have the option of paying toward lunch accounts (using credit, debit, or EBT), setting up email alerts for low balances, and even auto-replenishing student lunch accounts. Required Vaccinations for 7th Grade
Sixth grade families are reminded that Ohio requires all students entering seventh grade to have a dose of the Tdap and a dose of Miningococcal vaccines. Children are eligible to get both of these at age 11. Contact your family physician or Hancock Public Health (419-424-7441) to schedule.
