The vocal music department at Van Buren Local Schools strives to make future citizens that respect, advocate, and love music for a lifetime.  Over 280 students participate in the Sixth Grade Choir (directed by Darci Van Vlerah), the Middle School Seventh and Eighth Grade Choirs, the High School Concert Choir, Men's and Women's Choruses, and the award-winning show choir, The Association.  Groups and soloists under the current director, James Vaughn, have competed at Solo and Ensemble Contest, receiving numerous Superior ratings.  The Concert Choir also received a Superior rating at State OMEA Large Group Adjudicated Event in Class B in 2003, 2005, 2006, and 2007, and in Class A in 2008.  Men's and Women's Choruses both competed in Class C at State OMEA Large Group AE in 2008, with the Men's Chorus receiving a Superior rating. And, The Association has received numerous class championship and runner-up finishes, as well as nine top-five overall finishes, in the past eight years.

	UPCOMING CONCERTS, EVENTS AND NEWS: The High School Concert Choir received straight Superior (I) ratings in Class A at OMEA Northwest Region State Large Group Adjudicated Event, held at Van Buren High School on May 2-3, 2008.  This marks the first time that a mixed choir has received the highest honor from OMEA in Class A.  Congratulations to the group for this historical moment! The Men's and Women's Choruses both competed in Class C at OMEA Northwest Region State Large Group Adjudicated Event at Van Buren High School on May 2-3, 2008.  The Women's Chorus received an Excellent (II) rating; the Men's Chorus received a Superior (I) rating.  This marks the first time that a men's choir has received a Superior rating ever at Van Buren.  Congratulations to both groups for qualifying in their first year of existence!
