Vaughn is in his ninth year of teaching at
Van Buren Local Schools as the vocal music teacher,
instructing fifth and sixth grade general music
classes and directing the Middle School Choir, the High
School Concert Choir, Men's and Women's Choruses, The Association (Van Buren
High School's show choir) and the school musical. He
received his Bachelor of Music in Music Education degree
from Bowling Green State University, studying with Dr.
Mark Munson, Dr. Edward Maclary, Richard Mathey, and
Christopher Scholl, and has a master degree in teaching.
During his time at Van Buren, Mr. Vaughn has directed
The Association to no less than 16 championship or
runner-up awards in their class, as well as nine top-six
overall finishes. He
has also directed numerous soloists and ensembles to
Superior ratings at OMEA solo and ensemble contests in
both junior high and high school. The High School
Concert Choir has earned Superior ratings in Class B and
Class A under his
direction at both district and state Large Group OMEA
Adjudicated Events in 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008, and performed
at the Ohio School Boards Association Capitol Conference
in Columbus in November 2005. He also founded the
Men's and Women's Choruses as extensions of the Concert
Choir in 2007 and qualified both groups to state
Adjudicated Event in their first year, earning a
Superior rating with the Men's Chorus in Class C. A member of the Ohio
Music Educators Association (affiliated with Music
Educators National Conference) and the Ohio Choral
Directors Association (affiliated with the American Choral
Directors Association), Mr. Vaughn served two years as NW Region OMEA
All-State Choir Rehearsal Chair and as the High School Repertoire and Standards
Chair for OCDA, and is now serving as webmaster of OCDA.
In his spare time, Mr. Vaughn enjoys hiking, camping,
traveling to new areas, singing in his church
choir, and seeking out great concerts and musicals to
attend whenever possible, as well as spending time with
both family and friends.
