information from Harvard Medical School, other universities, and government
and private medical organizations.

- Merck Manual Home Edition
- This site has a friendly user's guide which outlines medical terms and
chapter organization, and a lengthy table of contents: everything you'd find
in the print version of a good family medical guide. The newest version has
videos, animations, and an audio guide to pronunciations.
- Internet Mental Health
- Includes an 'encyclopedia' of mental disorders--description
and treatment. Provides authoritative links for some serious
conditions--panic disorders, agoraphobia, bipolar disorder, social
phobia--that most of us don't recognize or understand.
- Food and
Nutrition Information Center
- Excellent sections on eating disorders and dietary
assessment (including the latest edition of the food pyramid). The
"Consumer Corner" has many full-text documents on the food and
nutrition topics the public most frequently asks about. From the

- Nutrition Navigator
- Use this site to find out about many more health and
nutrition sites, along with full descriptions and critical
commentary. The sites are rated on a 25 point scale by Tufts
University's School of Nutrition Science and Policy.
- Fitness Online
- Advice on diet, nutrition, and exercise.
Calculators for body mass index, appropriate weight for your height,
calories burned during exercise, and the amount of sleep you should be
getting. Of course, they also sell things here, but the articles are
free.
- CyberDiet
- Features many interactive assessment tools--everything a
person would need to plan a healthy diet. The "Daily Food
Planner" helps construct a personal menu plan, complete with recipes
and a shopping list. The "Resource Center" posts practical
information and advice for people on special diets or allergies, diabetes,
and other medical conditions.
- The Diet Channel
- Includes "over 600 links to reliable diet
information." Sections of interest to students may include
sports nutrition, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, supplements, diet and
